Born on 14 September 1822 at Dulverton, Somerset England. John was a harness maker and a saddler in Orange from 1855. He was Mayor of Orange for 3 terms, 1864, 1868 and 1874. He died at Little Hartley on 13 June 1904 and was buried at Mt York on 16 June 1904.
